Extract & Normalize Citations
Custom regex patterns, spaCy models, and legal-domain tokenization detect citations including "42 U.S.C. § 12112(b)(5)(A)", "42 C.F.R. § 410.78", "Section 1557 of the ACA", subsections, and informal references like "Title VII". All are normalized into canonical keys.
Resolve Against Corpus
The resolver checks citations against pre-indexed legal databases including the U.S. Code, eCFR, and optional sources like CourtListener for opinions. Valid citations return with URI, excerpt, and metadata. Invalid citations are flagged as non-existent, outdated, or ambiguous.
Semantic Matching
When explicit citations are absent, LexGuard embeds each claim, searches vector databases (FAISS or Pinecone), retrieves top matches from authoritative sources, computes similarity scores, and performs entailment analysis to detect mismatches.
Confidence Scoring
LexGuard combines multiple signals: cosine similarity between claims and sources, citation-first override rules, optional entropy and log probability analysis, and metadata consistency checks to produce reliable confidence assessments.

Case law support will add validation for federal court decisions across all circuits.
Does LexGuard store or retain user data?
No. LexGuard prioritizes client confidentiality and attorney-client privilege. We store only hashed metadata for system operation and improvement. Full zero-retention mode is supported for maximum privacy protection. No document text, client information, or substantive legal content is retained on our servers. All processing is ephemeral and complies with legal industry confidentiality standards.
